HCCF Awards $38,000 to 26 Huron County Projects

The Huron County Community Foundation awarded over $38,000 in grants to 26 local projects at its Annual Celebration on September 10 at the Huron Youth Center in Elkton. The grants, recommended by HCCF's grantmaking committee after a review of dozens of applications, touched nearly every corner of the county — from Sebewaing to Port Hope — and covered needs ranging from food security and education to health, historic preservation, and community vitality.

Impact Across the County

This year's grants reflect the breadth of HCCF's mission across Huron County:

  • Basic needs and food security — Support for food pantries, holiday meal programs, diaper assistance, and weekend backpack programs helped families and seniors meet essential needs.

  • Education and literacy — Funding for reading and math centers, classroom libraries, and school-based projects strengthened learning opportunities from elementary grades through high school.

  • Health and family wellbeing — Grants supported maternal and infant health, personal care resources for families facing hardship, and calming, welcoming classroom spaces for students.

  • Youth development — Investments in Girl Scouts programming, arts camps, student-led entrepreneurship, and sensory support for students gave young people new ways to learn and lead.

  • Community and economic vitality — Downtown beautification, library upgrades, and historic preservation projects helped local communities maintain their character and appeal.

  • Workforce and life skills — A transition workshop for young adults and an ESL program for Spanish-speaking residents expanded pathways to independence and opportunity.
