Designated Funds
Creating or giving to an existing Designated Fund empowers you to champion the mission of a particular organization that holds personal significance for you.
Through your community foundation, your contribution extends beyond mere funding, offering the selected organization an additional tool for sustainability and gaining donors. A designated endowment fund provides funding in perpetuity for nonprofit organizations supporting our community.
How it Works
Here are the steps involved in establishing a Designated Fund:
Conversation: Having a conversation with the staff of the foundation is the first step in determining if a designated fund is the right fit for your philanthropic goals
Selection: Choose the organization you wish to support.
Fund Establishment: We create a dedicated fund with the name that you have chosen, for example a family name or the name of the nonprofit organization
Contribution: Make a gift to your community foundation, offering cash, appreciated stocks, real estate or other assets. This is a great time to start thinking about estate gift planning to continue supporting the fund after you’re gone.
Tax Benefits: Enjoy tax advantages in the year of your donation.
Grant Distribution: Our board issues grants directly to the designated nonprofit organization annually.
Administrative Support: We handle all administrative tasks, including communication with the nonprofit organization and due diligence.
Impact Updates: Stay informed with regular updates on the fund's impact. These updates often include photos from the organization.
Benefits
A Designated Fund offers a meaningful avenue for giving to specific organizations that hold personal significance for you. Beyond providing financial support, your gift ensures that your chosen organization benefits from the investment stewardship and endowment management expertise of the community foundation. By entrusting administrative tasks to the foundation, the staff and volunteers of your selected nonprofit can dedicate more time to advancing its mission. Additionally, we are equipped to facilitate even the most intricate forms of giving, such as planned gifts or donations of appreciated stock or real estate.
You can contribute to the fund at any time. Should the organization you designate undergo changes, such as a dissolution, the fund can be redirected to continue fulfilling your original charitable objectives. This ensures that your generosity continues to make a positive impact, aligning with your philanthropic vision and supporting the causes closest to your heart.
