YAC in Action - Birthday Kits

The Huron County Community Foundation’s Youth Advisory Committee recently partnered with Thumb Blessing Boxes to pack Birthday Kits to be distributed to local schools and service providers across the county to ensure every child has a special birthday.

Last Spring, the YAC awarded a grant to Thumb Blessing Boxes to support the purchase of supplies for Birthday Kits. As they reviewed the grants, the students said “we want to be a part of this!”. At their most recent meeting, Thumb Blessing Boxes Founder, Melissa Deming, attended to share an update on the organization with the YAC and take them up on their offer to get involved. The students helped unload and sort the kit materials, creating an assembly line.

Each kit received a box of cake mix, a can of pop (to replace the perishable items that are typically needed to make a boxed cake mix), frosting, candles, a birthday card, a small gift, and a book provided by Huron County Great Start Collaborative. The students packed and wrapped 100 birthday kits during their meeting!

Our YAC provides grants to support projects impacting Huron County’s youth, but they also like to roll up their sleeves and pitch in. We’re proud of our students and of the collaborative effort to make sure every child is celebrated. Thank you, Melissa and Thumb Blessing Boxes, for welcoming our YAC to get hands-on with their grant!
