I grew up in the Sebewaing area and continue to live there. I graduated from college in 2021 and started at the Cooperative Elevator soon after.  While in high school I was fortunate enough to receive one of the scholarships administered by community foundation, which helped finance my education at Michigan State University.  It's an honor to now serve on the HCCF Board and do my part to help positively impact the community that has supported me, and that I continue to call home.

Shelly Gunden, Pigeon

Shelly is the Roaming Coordinator at Thumb Cellular LLC in Pigeon.

It’s an honor and a privilege to be a part of the Huron County Community Foundation.  Huron County is such a unique place to work, live and play.  The foundation is designed to continue that tradition for generations to come by offering great service projects, opportunities for our youth and continued education scholarships.    I’m looking forward to working with other community individuals to ensure that our county continues to grow and expand these opportunities.

Garret Mausolf, Bad Axe

Garret is a CPA and tax partner at the accounting firm Hyzer, Hill, Kuzak & Co., P.C. located in Bad Axe.

I reside in the Verona area with my wife Erica and our three sons (Emsley, Griffin, and Ellison) and one daughter (Grayley).  My wife and I are both originally from the area and decided to move back to Huron County when she was pregnant with our second child in order to spend more time with our families and to raise our kids in the same community we grew up in.  When not busy at work, I enjoy spending time coaching youth baseball and soccer and volunteer as a board member with Bad Axe Soccer Association.   I’m excited to volunteer my time and energy to help further all the great work being done through HCCF.

Briynne McCrea, Bad Axe

Briynne is the Director of the Bad Axe Area District Library.

My husband James and I were both raised in the Bad Axe area, and we moved back to Verona Township after college to start our careers and family in 2011.  Our families both have deep roots in Huron County, and I want it to thrive so that future generations can see themselves working and raising families here as well.  Most of my time is spent being mom to my two kids and managing the library in Bad Axe, but in my free time I love to garden, read, and play the piano.  Over the last few years, it has been my pleasure to become involved with a variety of local community groups.  I am excited to join the work of all the energetic and capable people who make up the Community Foundation.

Nicole (Nikki) Melnik, Ubly

Nikki and her husband Jeremy own Maurer Electric of Bad Axe.

I live in Ubly, we have 3 daughters. We love to ride motorcycles and camp and spend time with family and friends. I look forward to helping Huron County move forward.

We have two fun loving kids, Macy & Hudson and are so lucky to be surrounded by close family and friends in Huron County. I look forward to helping serve with the rest of the Huron County Community Foundation members. Along with that I am excited to help show the community exactly why Huron County is the perfect place to visit, but an even better place to call home.

Samantha Schnettler, Harbor Beach

Samantha is the Executive Director of the Huron County Economic Development Corporation, and owns a few small businesses with her husband in Harbor Beach.

It is an honor and a privilege to serve on the Board of Trustees for the Huron County Community Foundation. As a member of the Public Engagement Committee for several years, I have built an understanding and appreciation for the impact HCCF creates for individuals and communities within Huron County. I look forward to all that we are able to accomplish, and I'm excited to be a part of the exceptional group of thoughtful leaders that make up the Board.

Corinne Schornack (1).jpg

Corinne R. Schornack, Kinde

Corinne is the Human Resource Director for the Cooperative Elevator Co.

I am honored to serve as a member of the HCCF Board.  I view it as a way to give back to the community where my husband and I work and raise our family.  The Foundation supports and promotes community projects as well as educational opportunities that have a positive, lasting impact on the people of Huron County.  It is essential that these efforts continue in order for our community to thrive and grow.  I look forward to being part of a team with the talent and resources to help accomplish that goal.

Kevin Soper, Harbor Beach

Kevin is the Site Leader for Corteva Agriscience in Harbor Beach.

Having grown up in the area and working here as a young adult, my family and I feel a special connection to Huron County.  We had spent several years living and working in other parts of the country and state when the opportunity came to move back to the Thumb.  It is such a blessing to raise my family in an area with such strong values, sense of community, and beautiful outdoors.  I am excited to serve the county through the HCCF board, and look forward to engaging with the wonderful people who also call this home.

I was raised on our family farm, located between Owendale and Sebewaing and have always had ties to Huron County.  My husband, Levi, and I reside just outside of Caseville with our 3 very active children, Stephen, Eva, and Violet.  As a business owner in a small town and an educator that works across the county, I really enjoy the opportunity to be active in supporting so many great organizations and programs in Huron County.  I am so excited to support the work of the Huron County Community Foundation and I look forward to promoting the many incredible opportunities that Huron County has to offer for the people who choose to work and live here.
