New Fund Spotlight: Storrs Family Fund

A $500,000 gift from Harbor Beach Community Schools and the estate of Horrace Gail Storrs and Lorraine (Pranke) Storrs is creating the Storrs Family Fund at the Huron County Community Foundation.

The Storrs Family Fund will provide ongoing support for the newly created Children’s Savings Account (CSA) program launching this fall at Harbor Beach Community Schools. HCCF, HBCS, and Frankenmuth Credit Union have partnered together to create the CSA program. CSA programs exist throughout the state of Michigan and across the country with the goal of providing financial literacy education to students, creating a culture of saving for the future, and supporting student’s post-secondary pathways.

“This fund is created because of Lorraine’s love for Harbor Beach Community Schools,” said HCCF Executive Director, Mackenzie Price. Lorraine Pranke Storrs was a 1951 graduate of Harbor Beach. “She felt that the community and the people at Harbor Beach Community Schools raised her and shaped her into the person she ended up being,” added Price. Lorraine’s positive experience will now create opportunities for every current and future Pirate.

The CSA program will include an initial deposit of $100.00 per student, made by the Storrs Family Fund, to establish the account. Yearly deposits of $30 will then be added as a student progresses towards graduation. After successful completion of high school, students will have access to the funds to support their post-secondary plans.

On September 4, 2024 the final agreements between all three partners were signed. The program will begin enrolling students in Fall 2024.
