Michigan EGLE Awards $600,000

The site chosen for the Community Hub project was previously a gas station. Early in the site selection process, HCCF included the Huron County Brownfield Redevelopment Authority in the discussion and plans.

On August 3, the State of Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) announced a $600,000 Brownfield Redevelopment Grant to help support the clean up of the site during redevelopment.

"My roots are in the Thumb, and I'm glad to see Bad Axe plans to invest brownfield funding into developing a community-based hub," EGLE Director and Pigeon native Liesl Clark said. "This community initiative will immensely benefit the region, and truly illustrates the spirit of brownfield funding by directly supporting a vibrant economy while protecting the environment."

The grant from EGLE and partnership with the Huron County Brownfield Redevelopment Authority allowed HCCF to move forward with the next phase of the process for redevelopment.
