HCCF Trustees “Graduate” From Board Service

The Huron County Community Foundation wishes to express gratitude to our three term-limited Trustees: Corinne Schornack, TJ Polega, and inaugural Youth Trustee, Reece Wruble.

HCCF values thoughtful and intentional board turnover to continue to represent the best interests of our county. Our current governance structure allows for Trustees to serve a maximum of six years — two, three year terms — on the Board of Trustees. This means that each year we “graduate” a few members of our board. We intentionally use the word “graduate” because, like an alma mater, we hope that our Trustees leave the board with an ongoing affection for HCCF and a continued desire to be an advocate for the organization.

Corinne Schornack, Filion, began her board service in January 2019. For the latter half of her board service, Corinne was a the Chair of the HCCF Governance Committee. The Governance Committee has an important role of recommending new members to serve on the Board of Trustees and on all HCCF committees. The Governance Committee is also responsible for reviewing applications for the Youth Trustee seat. Corinne did a wonderful job of leading this committee and bringing new members with diverse perspectives to the HCCF Board. As the Governance Chair, Corinne also served on the Executive Committee. At Corinne’s last meeting, she mentioned how impactful it was to sit at a table full of people that answered her call as Governance Chair and said “yes!” to volunteering with HCCF.

TJ Polega, Port Austin, began his board service in January 2019. TJ served on a variety of committees during his time on the board, including the Finance Committee, Building Committee - responsible for the initial site selection and architectural design of the Community Hub, and the Executive Committee as the Member At Large. TJ’s perspective as a business owner provided valuable insight to conversations on HCCF operations and the future of the organization. At his final meeting as a Trustee, TJ commented on the transformational growth that HCCF saw during his time on the board and how exciting it was to be a part of this chapter of HCCF’s story.

Reece Wruble, Harbor Beach, began her board service in January 2024. As the inaugural Youth Trustee, Reece paved the way for future young people to serve on the HCCF Board of Trustees. State of Michigan law allows 16-17 year old students to serve as full voting members on nonprofit boards. Youth Trustees serve a maximum one year term to ensure continued youth representation on the board. Adding a youth voice to conversations about retaining and attracting talent and the future of our community was important to HCCF. We are proud of Reece for taking a bold step to be the first to serve in this capacity!

Please join us in expressing our thanks and appreciation for Corinne, TJ, and Reece’s service to HCCF and our community.
