New Fund Spotlight: Laker Legacy Fund
"The Laker Legacy Fund is being created to support special programs, projects and extracurricular activities of the Elkton-Pigeon-Bay Port Laker schools. The Fund will provide alumni, donors, friends, parents and residents the opportunity to invest in the long-term growth and success of the students."
These are the first lines of the Foundation's newest Fund Agreement, establishing the Laker Legacy Fund. This is the second endowed fund created with the Foundation to benefit the school, the first being the Elkton-Pigeon-Bay Port Laker Fine Arts and Academic Fund, established in 2009. Junior High/High School Principal, Mr. Brian Keim is excited to offer another avenue for the community to support the school. "The concept of a Laker Legacy Fund has been in the discussion phase for several years now, as relationships with alumni and local business partners have grown. We have a lot to be proud of here at Lakers in terms of academic, athletics, agriculture, and the arts, but nothing makes us more proud than the strong support our community shows for our schools. The Legacy Fund creates an opportunity for those who want to support our special projects and programs to do so in a formal and recognizable manner."
The Laker Legacy Fund is an endowed designated fund, thanks to a generous initial gift from L.J. Gascho, simply meaning the fund will exist in perpetuity and every spendable penny of interest will be funneled back to Laker Schools. This fund will have a committee, comprised of school officials and community stakeholders, that will be responsible for allocating the funds as they see needs arise in the school.
